Evolution Recording, a world class professional recording studio, now offers recording arts classes at their state-of-the-art studio! At the completion of this ten week course you will be able to properly set up a music session, direct the session musicians, set up and operate Pro Tools HD, operate
all outboard equipment, manage the recording session, understand the signal routing matrix, record and mix a real session. Your final exam will be recording a band of session musicians, maintain session logs and mix to final product! That’s right! Actual recording sessions with real bands!
Class sizes are kept to no more than 6 students per class or less, so you get the personalized attention and instruction you deserve. You will attend class two days per week, 2.5 hours per class.

Basic Audio Essentials: Understand the essentials of audio, how it’s produced and how we interpret sound, the human frequency range of hearing and how it pertains to the audio professional.
Critical Listening: Discover and understand unique characteristics of sound and music and how it becomes a creative part of the production and mixing environment.
Signal Flow: Introduction to I/O, record paths, monitor paths, auxiliary sends and returns and the buss routing matrix.
Pro Tools 101: Analog to digital converters and their design and functionality.
Pro Tools 101: Session Setup/Parameters, SMPTE AES/EBU, sample rate, bit depth, I/O settings, the Transport Window, Pro Tools Preferences, Tools of Operation, Modes of Operation, Import Audio, Edit Audio, Looping, Duplicating, Repeating and Quick Keys.
Pro Tools 101: Session start up, file management, striking the session, equipment cycle up/down.
Pro Tools 101: Midi development and applications.
Microphones: Design and characteristics, condensers, dynamics, polar patterns, pads.
Microphone Pre-Amps: Setting levels, selection, phantom power, padding, phasing.
Dynamics and Time Based Effects: Understanding compressors, EQ’s and time based delays, reverbs, chorus, flangers and other effects.
Cables and Connectors: Balanced and Unbalanced audio.
Recording Session: Microphone selection and placement, The Patchbay, getting sounds up in the recording session, drum and instrument micing techniques, Quick Punch recording, Tempo Operations, Time Operations, file management, managing the session and musicians, troubleshooting problems in the session.
Recording Overdubs: Overdubbing vocals and instruments, managing the session, striking the session.
Pro Tools 101: Automation, modes of automation, Automation Enable Window, pans, mutes, levels, sends, Snapshot Automation.
Advanced Mixing Techniques: Setting levels, plug-ins and outboard processors, panning, the stereo field, applying dynamics and EQ, creative decision making, “placing in the mix”, striking the mix session.
Studio Maintenance: Soldering balanced and unbalanced connectors, shielded and un-shielded cables.
